THE HOUSE OF HERMES
Founders: Thierry Hermes, Emile-Charles Hermes.
Address: 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, Paris, France.
Specialty: the premier French couture house with numerous lines of garments, leather and silk goods, jewelry, and various brand-name merchandise. Their leathers and silks became the handmade phenomena in our mass-production world highly appreciated by quality conscious consumers. They say the H in the word “Hermes” should be pronounced in a whisper – and so should the price! Most of their handbag styles are sold for thousands of dollars. Despite that, Hermes customers are not all rich and famous. The reality of this classic brand is that housewives worldwide might have saved for several years to buy one status bag, such as a legendary Kelly, originally called a Sac à dépêches, which in 1956 was re-named for Princess Grace of Monaco, the former Grace Kelly; or a Birkin named after a French actress, Jane Birkin, in 1984.
Signature styles: coveted and collectible, virtually every Hermes handbag style combines utter functionality and classic design. It is recommended to buy vintage Hermes products only from authorized dealers and reliable sources to avoid the disappointment of buying a fake.
